The Evening Standard (London) of 17 January carries a
report on p.3 that a new Disney animated film, "Jungle
Book 2", is to be released in the UK on 11 April, 36
years after the first was released. Shere Khan is
still roaming the forest, Mowgli is based in the
man-village, and new characters include Shanti, a
little girlfriend for Mowgli.
At least the sidebar to the report includes the
statement that 'Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book,
published in 1894, has been translated into more than
25 languages. Walt Disney banned writers from reading
it so that the film was his version.'
With best regards
