It is from the Vieille Chronique of 1389, which is included in the
Cartulaire, vol. 1, p. 20.

Also in the Cartulary (vol.1, p. 206-7) is an 1181 charter of Count
Thibaut: "Ego Teobaldus, Blesensis comes et Francie senescallus,
omnibus tam futuris quam presentibus notum facio quod, cum, ex
antiqua consuetudine, erga me tenerentur homines Capituli Beate-Marie
Carnotensis quandam partem ejusdem civitatis, que communi cognitioni
certa erat et nota, fossatis claudere et fossatos ejusdem partis
quotiens opus esset reparare, pro remedio anime mee ... ad peticionem
ejusdem Capituli, hanc predictam consuetudinem quitavi, et homines
qui eam, ut dictum est, debebant, inde in perpetuum absolvi. Ipsi
autem ad construendum murum super eosdem fossatos, ex communi assensu
Capituli, mille libras michi dederunt, tali conditione quid si
dienceps quoquomodo murum cadere aut dirui vel fossatos impleri
contigerit, non teneantur amplius vel in muro vel in fossatis aliquid
mittere, sed ab omin bienno quod in eis habebam ipsi et omnis terra
Capituli quiti in perpetuum remaneant et absoluti."
