Dear all
As part of this University's Information Strategy review I am a
member of the Baseline and Chargeable Services Working Group and have
been asked to gather information on charging models for other archive
and records management services in the University sector. Other
colleagues are dealing with Library, Computing and other services so
my remit is narrow.
I am hoping you will be able to comment the following statement on
internal funding/charging and confirm that this is the case in your
own organisation:
"Even though they may be located differently within the HEI
structure, Scotland's HEI Archive and Records Management Services are
all funded on the same basis. Internal funding comes from a top
slice central allocation and not from charging for individual use of
services or department/faculty subscriptions. Charging for value
added services like photocopying or to recoup costs incurred on
behalf of another Department is permitted. Services are sometimes
subsidised by external project or commercial income but this is not a
condition of operation as it adds value to the core services."
I would appreciate your comments on this statement particularly if
you have any experience of different charging models either
successful or unsuccessful.
I can circulate a note on everyone's comments if there is interest.
Many thanks
Moira
