medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
a simple question which someone here surely knows the answer to.
Stephen Murray of Columbia Univ. is developing a very extensive collection of
websites devoted to various sites in France, including the cathedral of Paris
:
http://www.learn.columbia.edu/notre-dame/index.html
as part of this site Janet Marquardt-Cherry has a very nice few pages devoted
to an extensive tour of the cathedral of Paris which might be of general
interst :
http://www.learn.columbia.edu/notre-dame/Exterior%20pages/People_2.html
on a page devoted to the canons of the cathedral :
http://www.learn.columbia.edu/notre-dame/Exterior%20pages/People_4.html
she says : "A good example is the famous canon named Abelard who was a
brilliant teacher, talented composer and reckless lover."
is this true --the part about Abelard being a canon of the cathedral chapter
??
certainly possible, though i've never heard that, and was just wondering.
many thanks,
christopher
