Good afternoon,
There is a great deal of detailed information about dispersal and
introductions in:-
Donkin, R A, 1991 Meleagrides:an historical and ethnogeographical study of
the guinea fowl
Ethnographica Ltd., London
For the British Isles there is an early quoted definition by Elyot(1538) of
meleagrides as birds 'which we call hennes of Genny'
Elyot, T, [1538] (1542) Bibliotheca Eliotae (Londini)

Subject: [ZOOARCH] Guinea fowl
Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me when the Helmeted Guinea fowl (Numida
meleagris) was first introduced to Britain, and provide a reference?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Andy
