Back in 1997 I was involved in a conference on evolutionary psychology.
Professor Beecher from the Department of Psychology and Zoology, University
of Washington talked about bird song. I have no idea if he's still there,
but if he is, he might be able to suggest someone (I assume you're looking
for someone in the UK).
Also, Tim Birkhead talks about bird song a bit in his new book 'Red Canary'.
