Michael, when I look at some of the older grand structures in the US, I
remember that craftsmen were brought in from Europe to do the stone, wood
and other work because these types of craftsmen were not available/trained
in the US. While I am all for progress (because I do love many of the new
products, materials and structures) it is more the artifacts from that
culture that I would greatly miss. I was overwhelmed the first time I
visited the Scandinavian countries because design seemed to be
everywhere...much more tangible, it seems. Global design may be good for
some products and some ideas that need to be encouraged, but mass
globalization of products (moreso than today) seems to be coming.
