Arts on the Web Background

The Arts on the Web project brings together a consortium of nine arts and
cultural organisations in Greater Manchester and the North West of England
to develop a web based portal for arts organisations in the conurbation
and potential to roll out to the region.

This portal will:
· provide a platform for arts organisations to develop audience
focused arts and education activity using existing and new content;
· significantly enhance the services that arts organisations provide
and their profile nationally and internationally.
· Enable participants to gain significant strategic advantage as web
content providers.

The aims of the project are to develop a high end broadband distribution
channel delivering to at least the internet and digital television. The
feasibility study on the project recommended a modular approach to
development. This post is to implement the first phase modules and to
assess their impact.

Arts on the Web is a demand-led initiative for innovation, to create a
shared knowledge base and platform for digital development among
arts/cultural industries SMEs, and to use the platform for dialogue and
participation with local and international users and communities.
This is an innovative and exciting project because it brings together the
content and creativity of cultural industries with cutting edge production
and distribution technologies on an integrated technology platform. The
project will build a digital technology cluster for cultural industries
through inter organisation networking, collaboration, knowledge sharing
and skills development. It is supported by the lead bodies and key
agencies in the region for the sector and for technology development.

The project partners include:
Bridgewater Hall; Contact Theatre; Cornerhouse; Hallé; Idea; Grizedale
