The Astrophysical Institute and University Observatory of the Friedrich
Schiller University, Jena, Germany, invites interested young researchers to
apply for a Marie Curie Development Host Fellow position. The institute is
active in research on the properties of the interstellar medium and the
process of star formation.
The successful applicant will work on the "Gas-Phase Spectroscopy of
Astrophysically Relevant Molecules and Particles" project that started on
January 2001. Since then a cavity ring-down laser absorption spectrometer
has been developed; it includes a heated pulsed valve and a discharge
device. The fellow will perform spectroscopic studies and work on the
improvement of the set-up in collaboration with the staff of the laboratory
astrophysics group.
Applicants are expected to be experienced in gas-phase spectroscopy
techniques (CRDS is a plus), molecular and/or cluster spectroscopy, and the
use of pulsed lasers. A first postdoctoral experience would be appreciated.
Marie Curie Development Host Fellowships require the following conditions:
applicants must
- be nationals of an EU Member or Associated State, or have resided in the
EU for at least five years immediately prior to their selection
- not undertake their fellowship in the country of their nationality or
recent centre of activity
- be 35 years old or less at the time of selection
- have a doctoral degree or at least four years of full-time research
experience at postgraduate level other than doctoral studies
The Friedrich Schiller University is an equal opportunities employer.
Applications by women are highly encouraged.
