Since posting my earlier message I have obtained further information:
"The first in a new series of courses to help people research their local miming history has been launced in County Durham. The Durham Miner Project aims to involve local people in preserving the county's mining heritage. A series of small, informal courses at community venues has been set up to enable people to show their communities in their own words and photographs. The free courses are offered at three levels - basic local mining history, advanced local mining histtory and oral history - and a certificate will be awarded at the end of each course.
Each course has support staff available as well as staff for those visiting local record offices, museums and archives. Those taking part will be able to choose the area of mining history they would like to research from a particular mine to the life of a miner's wife.
The basic courses will be held at libraries in Easington Colliery, Horden, Blackhall, Seaham, Barnard Castle and Shotton. "
I have now got a slightly different email address to that I gave in my earlier message. I have tried to use both but the messages have bounced back . I will contact the office when they re-open and try and get the correct email address and if any list member requires this then please contact me 'off list'
Alan.
