DESCRIPTION SEMINAR
19th June, 2003
Venue: The Meeting Place, 153 Drummond Street, London NW1 2PB
This seminar is intended as a highly participative professional
development opportunity for practitioners who want to develop
their knowledge and experience of current developments in
descriptive standards. It will also provide an occasion for
networking with others in similar situations.
The day begins with a session on managing the description
function, followed by an in-depth session on ISAD(G) and how to
apply it to new description as well as converting older catalogues
for compliance with the standard. There will then be an
introduction to using ISAAR and the data bank of ISAAR
administrative histories and biographies. After lunch there is a
case study on using EAD to mount ISAD(G) compliant description on
websites. A session on technology is followed by a final
facilitated group discussion to enable participants to develop
their own action plans.
Please note that the seminar assumes basic familiarity with
ISAD(G), which participants can prepare by reading through some
brief pre-course reading which will be supplied on registration.
We will be requesting that you send us examples of your older
finding aids for analysis in advance for the ISAD(G) session.
The course fee of £110 plus VAT (£129.25 in total) includes a
resource pack with supporting notes and useful follow-up
information. The fee also includes lunch (with vegetarian option,
please let the directors know if you have any other special
dietary needs) and tea and coffee.
