Dear All-
A rather lengthy reply, but there are a number of issues here and I hope
that this email can provide some clarity.
Firstly, we have had some problems with subscription data copying between
some of the IngentaSelect servers. Ingenta.com and Ingenta Select run on
some 40+ servers which enables users to benefit from performance gains
through local searching and in some cases delivery. It also has enabled us
to achieve long-term availability above 99.99%. However we do recognise that
on occasions this distributed network causes problems when servers fall out
of synch with each other. This happened recently and the problem was picked
up at the tail end of last week; we have now re-synchronised the network.
This is the likely cause of your disappearing and reappearing access. We
are continually working on ways to ensure maximum reliability from our
server network and to safeguard against such lapses. Our apologies for the
confusion this has caused.
Secondly, the Journal of Sports Sciences is now appearing correctly on both
Ingenta.com and IngentaSelect.com. This was an error on our part: we
initially loaded the journal incorrectly then re-loaded it. In the interim
period you would have seen quite different content on the two Ingenta sites.
More generally speaking, the process for loading data on to the two Ingenta
sites is slightly different, and due to some errors in the data we have
received from MetaPress we have been unable to load some Taylor & Francis
journals cleanly on to Ingenta.com. We are working with MetaPress to
correct these problems. We are also waiting for some missing issues from
other T&F journals to be supplied. Again, we are working closely with them
to facilitate this transfer.
There is also sometimes a delay between content appearing on one of our
sites and transferring to the other. This is generally only a few days, but
one site will sometimes lag behind the other for a very short period as the
two databases pass information to each other. We will reduce the complexity
of our operations when we deliver a single Ingenta site, and that will
result in a substantial reduction in 'data manoeuvring problems'. In the
meantime we will continue to monitor our databases closely.
The EZProxy problem mentioned is to do with the configuration of EZProxy,
and not IngentaSelect. We have been in touch with Useful Utilities and they
will be changing their configuration files to circumnavigate the problem in
a future release. In the meantime, please contact our customer services
team for information on how to configure EZProxy for IngentaSelect.
Finally, IngentaSelect will support Athens authentication very shortly, and
Athens administrators should be receiving information from the Athens
helpdesk in the next few days. I will let the list know when this is
complete.
Please continue to let us know if you encounter further problems and as
always we will endeavour to fix them as quickly as possible.
Lesley - I've just seen your latest email to the list - someone from our
customer services team will give you a call this morning to discuss.
Regards
