LANDSLIDE HAZARD MAPPING IN NE WALES (UK)
Applications are invited for the above full-time research studentship
leading to PhD of the University of Liverpool. Proposed start date is
September or October, 2003. Applicants should have, or expect to gain, a
2(i) degree in Geography (physical), Geology, Earth Science or
Environmental Science, and a high degree of computing/IT ability. They
should be competent in geomorphological field mapping, and have
experience of (or ability and willingness to explore) the application of
computer mapping and information systems to geoscience problems.
The project seeks to use spatial information systems to: i) characterise
the location, type, activity and impact of existing landslides in
North-East Wales; and ii) extrapolate (through statistical modelling)
from the pattern of existing landsliding to produce the first landslide
susceptibility model and map for the area.
The project is a collaborative venture between the College/University
and Reynolds Geo-Sciences (Mold). The Fellowship attracts a tax-free
bursary of £9,000pa plus fees (at UK/EC rate) for one year in the first
instance, with extension for up to three years in total subject to
successful annual progress. Further details available from: Dr. Martin
