Hi -
I am an anthropologist working on issues related to women and women's rights
amongs Muslim women in Indonesia. I am putting together a panel for the
National Women's STudies Association Conference with another anthropologist
(working in Morocco) and am looking for a third researcher to join the panel.
The panel is tentatively titled: Situated Modernity: Muslim Women in
Contemporary Global Contexts. Our aim is to examine women's different
cultural experiences of Islam in different regions of the world. We are
particularly interested in the ways women's lives are affected by or relate to
varying discourses of modernity or "Westernization".
We are searching for a researcher who is working with Muslim women in either
the US or Europe to join our panel. We hope that with three very different
regional foci, the panel can prompt some interesting discussions about women,
Islam and modernization. We do not have specific demands for the panelist.
Work could include intergenerational studies, women's rights activism,
diaspora issues to name a few.
IF you think you might be interested please send me a private e-mail for
further discussion.
Thank You
