The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art will be hosting the forthcoming
conference Action! Disability: Training, Employment & Performance on the
8th and 9th January 2004.
The conference offers an opportunity to take a major step forward in
recognising the value and contribution made by practitioners with
disabilities in the Performing Arts.
By bringing together significant players in the performance industries, it
is hoped to support and encourage an innovative and practical way forward,
while acknowledging and learning from the important work already done in
this area by dedicated individuals and companies, many of whom will be
contributing to this conference. By suggesting models for interchange and
understanding, the conference aims to increase awareness and encourage
diversity.
The conference will chaired by Elspeth Morrison, Head of Voice at Arts
Educational.
Key speakers include Estelle Morris (Minister for the Arts), Jo Verrent,
Jenny Sealey, Celeste Dandeker, Steve Mannix, Jeannette Siddall, Charlotte
Jones and Toby Whale.
Conference highlights will include inclusive drama and dance performance
workshops, an opportunity to experience inclusive teaching practice,
breakfast and evening receptions hosted by RADA and an evening performance
by Stop Gap.
RADA is very excited to have the opportunity to host this conference and to
learn more about the many issues facing the industry. RADA’s commitment to
a wider inclusion policy was recognised in the Adapt Award given for our
newly refurbished building but there is still much for us to learn.
