DIGLOG 1.0 Handheld Archaeological Excavation Manager for Palm OS

New Software Release from Diglogic Software
May 21st 2003

At "Diglogic Software" we develop data collection applications for
field archaeologists and architectural historians, integrating Palm
OST and WindowsT applications. Our first major application is a
complete solution to manage and record archaeological excavations, and
is designed for use by professionals, amateurs, local societies or
students.

The Diglog Suite is made up of three applications that can be used
independently or together; For use on or off site, Diglog runs on any
handheld computer running Palm OST 3.5 or higher. Following a HotsyncT
the data on the handheld can be viewed, edited and exported using
Diglog Desktop for WindowsT. Diglog Reports is a report writing tool,
which allows you to preview, print or save to html, your excavation
data. There are over 35 pre- formatted reports available.

Some of the main features of Diglog are:

Categorised checklists ease the headaches of pre- excavation planning.

A journal allows you to keep a daily record of site progress and
activities, including details of health & safety inspections, weather
details, hours worked and lost to foul weather, and a free text
journal area.

The project record form is used to store general information about the
project, including the unique code reference, excavation type, project
name, address, map/ grid reference and altitude, the name of the
organisation, and the start and end dates.

The staff index is a list of everyone working on, or associated with,
the project, and can include finds specialists, soil scientists etc.

An unlimited number of trenches can be recorded in Diglog. A freehand
sketch can also be added.

Contexts are defined as 'structure', 'deposit' or 'cut', and separate
record forms are available for each type. In addition we have a
workflow indicator, methods & finds checklists, sketch, matrix,
co-ordinates and dimensions, records of stones and inclusions.

Relationships are defined using a visual interface, and new
relationships are automatically reciprocated. Our relationship coding
system is fully compatible with MatrixBuilder from www.proleg.com,
enabling you to automatically generate a stratigraphic matrix straight
from site (or on site).

All finds are automatically cross-referenced to contexts and trenches.
There are a number of user-definable lookups to extend descriptive
ability.

Diglog also incorporates a flexible environmental sample recording
system.

For more information, please visit http://www.diglogic.com/ where you
can download a 15-day trial version for Palm OS, or a Windows emulator
version. Or email us at [log in to unmask]
