Hello Comrades,
Given the issues of a few very large US based Blackboard institutions with
Bb 6.0.10, I was interested to hear of fellow UK institution experiences for
the first few “days of school”.
At University of Dundee we have deployed Bb Enterprise 6.0.10.40-hf17 on
dual Sun/Solaris (each with Quad 900 MHz processors, 16 GB RAM). We
have an E-Directory LDAP user authentication route and the new
Questionmark Perception bridge to our formative CAA server. User data is
largely provided by daily updates from our SITS SMS.
As with previous years, our usage has seen another large increase (typical
daily server accesses of 400,000), and we are getting up to 150 unique IP
connections to Blackboard. We have made a few local updates to the
system (the Oracle driver issue, Java as –server), but basically we are
running with the system out of the box and we have not seen any significant
performance issues. We have learnt not to run entire Snapshot processes
when the system is busy, but we still run “MANUAL” routines to keep our
data up-to-date.
How are some other large systems across the UK bearing up? Are there
things we should be watching out for?
