Hi,
We are running Blackboard Learning and Community Portal System 6.0.9.213-
hf20 on a pair of Linux boxes and have recently had a problem with Portal
Modules.
We created a simple URL Module which points at an external page. This runs
fine on our test server (which is still sitting at 6.0.6.6)*1
It also ran fine on our live server until today, when suddenly instead of
displaying the URL contents in a module window, we get an Error Report at
the foot of the page: 'An error occurred. Please contact your System
Administrator' (appprox. where the module should be) - but see point *2
below.
When we go in through the System Admin Tab and click on 'Manage Modules'
instead of the handy list of modules, we get another very similar looking
error report: 'An error occurred. Please contact your System Administrator'
This means that we cannot Remove the offending module.
Not to be defeated, we tried to guess the URL:
Knowing that on the Test Server the still visible link to modify the
contents of this module was:
http://testserver.dur.ac.uk/webapps/portal/admin/customize_module/_221_1/adm
in.jsp
We tried
http://liveserver.dur.ac.uk/webapps/portal/admin/customize_module/_221_1/adm
in.jsp
Using the same numeric entry (the _221_1 bit) worked for other well-behaved
modules, but not for the URL link which just caused an Error: 500
'Location: /webapps/portal/admin/customize_module/_221_1/admin.jsp'
'Internal Servlet Error:'
'javax.servlet.ServletException: Specified object not found.'
Any suggestions?
Are we alone or have other people come across this?
Cheers,
Malcolm.

*1 Yes, thanks in advance to those readers who want to point out that this
should really be the other way round...
*2 If you ever have this, don't promote the module to prime position - at
the top of the left hand panel. If you do this things get really screwed
up - all I saw was the Tools Panel with the error message in the same frame
immediately below it (somewhat squashed). You loose all the modules and the
Contents and Layout buttons, making it quite hard to resolve. All I can say
is thank goodness for the Back button on your browser :-)
*3 Regular readers may be amused to learn that this happened the day Kate
went on holiday :-)
