Andy, I'm afraid you're up against a brick wall. Time and again I have to
remind academics that there's no point in having suverys that add a question
about gender or year group etc in order to cross-tabulate answers - it
cannot be done in Blackboard. You can get the data from a survey out in a
brutal way by using IE (not netscape) and copying the text(not saving pages,
which is what I've done for 3 years!) and pasting into excel - this will
keep the column divisions, so you can then reformat questions or delete them
and do any graphing/charting you want from the result percentages without
having to copy them over. If you know what you're doing in excel, I would
guess it will also let you change back your % into frequencies, since you
have your total responses (assuming everyone answered everything). It also
gives you I suspect an easier way of saving the data, as you often get data
errors if you try to save the results page (pl) as a webpage.

Subject: Analysing surveys created in BB
Hi Everyone,
We would like to use Blackboard to create a survey for one of our staff,
and we have done this by creating a survey with the assessment manager.
Our problem is that there appears to be no way to extract the data for
each question so it can be imported into something like excel or access
for further analysis. BB only lets you export the gradebook, which is
this situation is fairly useless as it only gives you a final mark -
this seems to go against the nature of a survey as opposed to an assessment.
Just in case I'm not being clear I'll give a quick example. We might ask
people for their gender and subsequently ask them which course they are
studying. Is there any way for us to export this data so we can use
excel or access to show us a break down of how many male and female
students we have on each course
Can anyone tell me if this is possible? We're using Blackboard 5.1
standard edition.
Thanks in advance,
Andy
