We are being pressed to provide an acquisitions policy for portraits and
artefacts for Fellows of the Royal Society, which our current President
would like to include only Presidents and Nobel prize winners. My feeling is
very strongly that as the archives of the Society cover all the Fellows, we
should not be making that distinction. I was wondering if any other
institution had drafted a policy for portraits, and if so whether they would
be willing to let me have a copy? And if anyone could suggest any arguments
which might be listened to, not to have such a serious limitations on our
policies?
