Dear all,
Thankyou to those of you who emailed the issues you felt imporant to pass on
to my students at Kent Archaeological Field School about doing
archaeobotany. I've just finished my weekend course and I think it went
well. We all had a god time. I stressed the importance of thorough sampling,
using experienced archaeobotanists from planning to post-ex(despite the
developer funded odds) with them and already have at least one student keen
to find a course to study archaeobotany in depth.
I drew a map of the field school grounds and they sampled the soil in recent
deposits beneath a range of existing habitats. It was interesting to have
the living communities to compare the plant macro (and varied molluscan)
assemblage with. Also lovely to see a bunch of adults so fascinated by their
flots! They also learnt "about" plant id, not "how to" as the website entry
for my course for KAFS indicated. So, thanks again, I've been singing your
praises all weekend.
all the best,
Lisa Gray
