Dear Christian,
at the following site we had evidence of horse mandibles used a skates
or, much more likely, children sledges
Albarella U, Beech M, and Mulville J. 1997. The Saxon, medieval and
post-medieval mammal and bird bones excavated 1989-91 from Castle
Mall, Norwich, Norfolk.AML Report New Series 72/97.
I am not aware of any other similar finding, though the practice is
known from Brueghel paintings. In fact I would be interested to know
of any other similar findings.
Cheers,
Umberto
