Subject: Comparison of Transport in UK/Germany/France
Dear Dave,
I need to develop some kind of comparison between the UK
transport
system, and those in Germany and France.
It is generally assumed - popularly asserted - that the continental
systems are more efficient that Britain's. But how does one demonstrate -
test - this? By the number of miles of roads per capita? Average speed of
trains? Levels of congestion? Costs of construction per mile?
Someone, somewhere, must have done a comparative study, to read the
conclusion that the UK transport systems are inferior. Can this study - or
authority - be identified?
If not: you have developed a wide network of contacts among
those
interested in transport policy - academics, practitioners and agencies -
via the new interest in land values. Would you mind circulating a paragraph
based on the above query, among them, to see if anyone can come up with
something solid?
Much obliged.
Fred
