Dear Simon,
Although I have never come across such a metamorphic surgical chair, the two
plates are from a supplement volume of Diderot and D'Alembert's famous
ENCYCLOPEDIE OU DICTIONNAIRE RAISONNE DES SCIENCES, DES ARTS ET DES METIERS, PAR UNE
SOCIETE DE GENS DE LETTRES.

<< Dear list members,
Dr Javier Moscosco of Wellcome Trust Center for the History of Medicine at
UCL would like to know whether anyone has seen a surgical chair similar to the
one shown in the attached image. The image is from the Wellcome Trust image
library(http://medphoto.wellcome.ac.uk/ - type 'surgical chair' into the
'quicksearch' box). As the Wellcome database doesn't list any source for the engraving
I daresay they'd be pleased if anyone could identify this as well.
Please can you reply directly to: Dr. Javier Moscoso
