Postdoctoral research position: Spectroscopy of free radicals in liquid helium nanodroplets
A three-year postdoctoral position is available to work with Drs Andrew Ellis and Martyn Wheeler on the spectroscopy, dynamics and chemistry of molecular free radicals in liquid helium nanodroplets. The introduction of liquid helium nanodroplets is one of the most exciting developments in chemical physics in recent years. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team involved in the spectroscopic study of molecular properties. We have a well equipped laboratory with an extensive range of spectroscopic equipment, including several high intensity tunable laser systems.
The project is multi-faceted. Important aspects will include instrument design, generating molecular beams and helium nanodroplets, working with free radical sources, laser spectroscopy, spectral assignment and interpretation, and mass spectrometry. An EPSRC PhD studentship is also available as part of this research project and the student will alongside the successful postdoctoral applicant.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious young scientist to develop a wide range of skills and expertise in a cutting edge area of chemical physics. The closing date for applications is 14 March 2003.
The salary scale is £18,265 to £27,339 depending on age and experience.
