MEDIA RELEASE - International Microsimulation Conference on Population Ageing and Health
Conference: Modelling Our Future:
International Microsimulation Conference on Population Ageing and Health
Dates & Location: Monday 8 December – Friday 12 December 2003
Hyatt Hotel, Canberra
Conference Chairs: Professor Ann Harding - National Centre for Social And Economic Modelling at the University of Canberra
Dr Anil Gupta: Director, Microsimulation Modelling and Data Analysis Division (MSDAD), Health Canada
Conference Information
The challenges presented by population ageing are exercising the minds of policy makers across the world, as we consider how our societies, economies and government programs will be affected over the coming decades. In this environment of change, modelling can play an important role in:
· quantifying the magnitude of likely effects on pension, health and other government expenditures and taxes;
· identifying particular problem areas, such as the predicted undersupply of sufficient health personnel or informal carers in the future; and
· assessing the impact of possible policy changes designed to respond to these issues, such as changes in social insurance systems or a shift in the cost of health and aged care away from governments and towards consumers.
See attached Press Release and Conference Program (in .pdf file format) for further details.
