China invests in EU rival to GPS
China is to invest more than EUR230m in Galileo, the EU's rival to the
Pentagon-controlled Global Positioning System (GPS), boosting Europe's hopes
of competing with the US in navigation satellite technology. The EU's aim is
for Galileo to become the major world infrastructure for the growing market
for location services. Commission officials said the deal with China could
be followed by similar agreements.
