But you have every right to ask for off list replies if people are offering
jobs or advice they do not want everyone to see. This could well be the case
with employment stuff.
The NASW lists are devoid of discussion of PESTery. Indeed, I have rarely
come across such an inward looking mob, They are Americans after all.
Incredibly high noise to signal ratio.
You started with Wellcome. Try them again. Good people, with good advice.
The PEST bandwagon is pretty big. You should probably focus your attentions
on an area that you want to pursue. The spread between journalism and
museums, for example, is huge.
I don't know if the advice we hand out to science writers will apply to the
broader church of communicators, but you might want to check out the careers
stuff over at the web site of the Association of British Science Writers. In
particular, look out for So You Want to be a Science Writer?
http://www.absw.org.uk
Also see if the Royal Society's web site has anything. They've done some
useful stuff in the area.
Is there any chance that you can work into PEST from a post in research?
That is my usual advice to scientists with a hankering to write.
Do remember, salaries in PEST are usually dire.
