Hi Michael,
Diamanda yes. I know the work well - even promoted a concert of hers in
London a decade ago when she performed a whole set of Blues.
I'm curious (again) about the idea of reward which seems a strangely
goal-orientated approach to reading. Maybe you can say more about that?
Caroline's work is certainly playful - in every line which brings
pleasures before we get into references and polylingual punning. I thought
it might chime in interesting ways with the recent Carol Ann Duffy
discussion as a differing critique of gender nurture. It is only an extract
btw. The piece unfolds its arguments over 8 pages.
I am serious about peer music. Read that little sliver of Caroline's work
out loud. Pay attention to the notations. try it. Out loud as Bunting urged
- 'poetry must be read aloud'.
But if it doesn't begin to suggest other sense of rhythm and how such
approaches to rhythm are being explored in contemporary musics then i've
obviously gone off down an elliptical track others can't follow. In which
case - sorry.
love and love
