Dear Anny
Thanks for that description, I almost felt I was there, and certainly
wished I was. I saw a great production of The Bacchae by a Greek
company once, I think it was the Attic Theatre Co, in ancient Greek:
still one of the most stunning things I have ever seen, savage and
archaic and disturbingly beautiful. They had a Bacchus who was one
of the most gorgeous young men I have ever seen (and you got to see a
lot of him). The stolid Greek burghers of Melbourne, who brought
them out for a bit of "culture", were most shocked. A year later the
same company brought their production of Heiner Muller's
Medeamaterial, which was equally amazing. Such things imprint on
your mind and never go away.
Best
