Forecasting Support Systems

Forecasting support systems are widely used in industry. The post , funded by the EPSRC to support a research project, will involve collecting time series data from companies, analyzing the data and writing up various statistical experiments aimed at understanding the factors that influence forecasting accuracy. Some familiarity with forecasting and regression techniques is essential. It will also require the analysis of commercial software and interviews with software development staff. Candidates should have a post-graduate qualification that includes substantial statistics. The project will also involve working with Dr Paul Goodwin and a doctoral student at the University of Bath. The opportunity exists for the appointee to be registered for a part-time Ph.D. The post is available from 1st. January 2004 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and is of 24 months duration.
