REINVENTION seminar on Saturday 25 October 2003 at Birmingham
Institute of Art and Design, University of Central England, Linden
Road, Bournville, Birmingham.
REINVENTION is the first seminar in the HOTHAUS SERIES and will
look at artistic practice that involves the recycling, subverting and
re-visiting of existing technologies. Proposed areas of research
include the relationship between the creator, the machine and the role
of the author; an investigation of old technologies, their histories and
philosophies.
REINVENTION speakers include:
Paul Granjon - artist and founder of Z Lab
Paul Ramirez Jonas - artist
Brian Duffy - sound artist and performer
Pope and Guthrie - artists
James Wallbank - artist, founder of Redundant Technology Initiative
Jem Finer - artist and founder member of The Pogues
REINVENTION will be chaired by Emma Posey - Director of BLOC
This REINVENTION seminar will be followed by Paul Granjon's
performance of Z LAB TRANSPORTED

The HOTHAUS SERIES will provide a platform for artists, theorists and
curators to discuss current and pertinent issues within contemporary
media arts practice. The objective of the series is to create a
discursive forum for people interested in new forms of art, curation
and distribution.
The seminars will situate media arts within a wider context of
contemporary visual practice and highlight the crossovers between
media arts, science and popular culture. The series will be
contextualised through a programme of exhibitions, events and
performances.
Future seminars in the HOTHAUS SERIES will look at progressive
technologies, space and environment, commissioning and curation.
Future participants include Michelle Hirschhorn, Susan Collins, Axel
Roch, Helen Sloan and Ansuman Biswas.

HOTHAUS SERIES is a collaboration between VIVID and the
University of Central England. The series will be published in
association with Article Press in 2005.
