The University of Durham invites applications for two Professorships,
one in (experimental) Physical Chemistry and one in Materials Chemistry.
The Chemistry Department at Durham is one of only 6 Chemistry
Departments in the UK to achieve the top grade of 5* in the last
national Research Assessment Exercise.
The University expects that the successful candidates for the Chairs
will meet the following general criteria:
· International excellence in research in an appropriate area of
chemistry, with a breadth of interests and an appreciation for
other research activities represented in the Department.
· An exemplary record of leading research projects and gaining
external funding.
· Vision and enthusiasm, with a demonstrated ability to lead by
example in fostering excellence in scholarship, in promoting
research policy and in encouraging the publication of research.
· A genuine commitment to the vital role of teaching at all
levels, and flair for innovation in course design and teaching
methods at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
· Good management and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to
share administrative tasks, to give leadership in the
development of policy and the ability to represent the
Department's interests both within the University and beyond.
