A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr.
Dennis J. Clouthier at the University of Kentucky. Funding is available
for this position for the next 3 years. We are looking for a talented
individual with experience in gas phase laser spectroscopy to undertake
LIF, SEP, wavelength resolved emission and REMPI studies of the spectra of
reactive intermediates in supersonic jet expansions. Familiarity with
modern quantum chemical calculations and computer programming would be an
asset. Current projects include studies of silicon, germanium, tin, boron,
and phosphorus containing species of interest in semiconductor growth
processes, astrochemistry, and fundamental studies of multiple bonding in
second and third row elements. Our laboratory is well-equipped with four
dye laser systems, several ionization sources, TOF-REMPI, SEP, quantum
beat, and emission spectrometers.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn several
techniques of producing and studying transient polyatomic molecules and
free radicals and the vibrational and rotational analysis of their spectra,
along with applications of ab initio calculations to the prediction and
interpretation of molecular spectra.
The University of Kentucky is located in Lexington, KY, a small city of
about 300,000 people in the heart of the beautiful bluegrass region, amidst
rolling hills and thoroughbred horse farms. Accommodations are
conveniently available on campus or in the surrounding
neighborhoods. Further information about the University and the
Department of Chemistry is available at
