Participation
Scientists and students working or interested in the field, from Latin
American and other countries are welcome to attend. The meeting will be
conducted in English. Please type, print in ink, or send by e-mail the
participation form to our university.

Scope and Format
The central theme is the description, both from an experimental and a
theoretical point of view, of the physical and chemical processes related to
environmental and biological systems. The main topics to be covered are:

Structure and energetics of molecular systems.
Dynamics and reactivity of isolated molecular species.
Dynamics of molecular species embedded in small and large clusters.
Dynamics of molecules in the condensed phase (liquid, solid) and at surfaces.
Control of chemical reactions.
Collisions with surfaces.

The scientific program will include invited lectures and poster sessions, with
ample time for discussion.

International School on Photodynamics, February 11-14, 2003
We are also organizing a school previous to the Conference, focused on a
higher level formation of a new generation of young researchers, from Cuba
and Latin American countries. Young researchers from other countries are also
welcome. With this purpose, professors with excellence in both teaching and
research have been invited to give short courses on some background topics
according to the scope of the Conference. This pre-Conference school is
scheduled for February 11-14, 2004.

Invited Professors (confirmed participation):

Prof. Ara Apkarian
(University of California at Irvine, USA)
 Multilinear Spectroscopy in Condensed Phase
1. Time versus frequency domain analysis.
2. Diagrammatic approaches.
3. Semiclassical treatment.
4. Dissipation & dephasing versus decoherence.
5. The manipulation of coherences & multi-dimensional spectroscopy.

Prof. Gustav Gerber
(Wuerzburg, Germany)
1. Generation and characterization of ultrashort laser pulses.
2. Wave-Packet dynamics in molecules studied with femtosecond pump-probe
techniques.
3. Femtosecond dynamics of nanoparticles in the gas phase and supported on
surfaces.
4. Optimal control of molecular femtochemistry I (Gas phase) and II (Condensed
phase).
5. Feedback-optimized electron dynamics and High Harmonic Generation.

Prof. John Weiner
(Toulouse, France)
1. Review of fundamental relations between electric and magnetic fields.
2. Introduction to the two-level atom and its dipole interaction.
3. Introduction to the density matrix operator.
4. Solution to the optical Bloch equations.
5. Introduction to light forces.
6. Nanostructures and light forces.

Conference Site
The meeting will take place in Havana, Cuba. The foundation of the city, in
its final place next to the entrance channel of a well-protected bay, dates
far back to November of 1519. La Villa de San Cristóbal de la Habana, became
with the course of time the meeting place for the Spanish fleets in charge of
transporting to the Metropolis all the wealth extracted from their domains in
the so called New World. It also became the centre of trade and
communications between the region and the Old Continent. Similar advantages,
essentially derived from its strategic geographic position, also influenced
directly the future development of this prosperous villa. The climate is
wonderful (it never snows), the average temperature in February is 21 oC.

The conference will be held in the Hotel Comodoro, a four-star category resort
located in the residential neighborhood of Miramar, and benefit by a stretch
of private beach. Just 15 Km away from the Jose Martí international airport,
it offers you the excellence of a personalized service, in a pleasant
environment on the West Side of town.

Accommodation and facilities
134 rooms in the hotel and 322 ones in the bungalows, overlooking the sea or
the gardens. All the rooms are air-conditioned, and 94 of them have
facilities for physically challenged persons. Satellite TV, telephone and
safe deposit box are available. VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards are welcome,
if not issued by US banks.

Registration and accommodation fees
The fee for new registrations will be 320 USD, and must be paid in cash on the
first day of the Conference, in Havana. For Cuban participants, the
registration fee will be 150 Cuban pesos. The package will cover conference
fees, Book of Abstracts, welcoming reception, lunches, coffee breaks, and
Conference dinner. Room prices for the whole meeting, including breakfast
will start from 44 USD (single room), 34 USD (double room) and 29 USD (triple
room).

For further information on reservation, contact the hotel offices.
phone: (537)-204-5551
Fax: ( 537) 33 22 20 or (537)-204-2089
e-mail: [log in to unmask]
Please mention your link to this Conference when doing your reservation
arrangement, and make a copy to us of the message. Taking into account that
February is a tourist high season in Cuba, hotel reservations must be made as
soon as possible. Please, contact directly the hotel by e-mail or fax and
send us a copy of your reservation as well as hotel confirmation.

Regarding to pre-Conference school:
The new fees for only attendance to school, 250 USD, and school plus
conference, 420 USD. Note that all the information regarding Hotel
accommodations is also valid for the school.

Deadlines
Mail the enclosed registration form to the Organizing committee, or register
on line in the Conference web site (http://usuarios.lycos.es/photodynamics/),
before January 15, 2004. Please feel free to use copies of the form for
your colleagues as necessary.

Contributions and proceedings
All persons interested in contributing to the meeting are expected to submit a
one-page abstract of their contribution before January 15, 2004. All papers
accepted will be displayed at poster sessions or by invited speakers in oral
presentations. Abstracts will be received as electronic file (LaTeX, Word,
etc.). A book of abstracts for contributed and invited papers will be
distributed to registered participants before the meeting.
We invite all speakers and participants to submit a paper. As in former
editions, we will have a special number on the Conference published in a
scientific journal, such as Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics (PCCP). A
special announcement can be found in Molecular Dynamics News. Contributions
in the form of regular papers should be handed in preferably at the meeting,
but other related contributions can be considered (deadline 31 March 2004).
Further information from: Professor V. Aquilanti (e-mail:
