I am interested in contacting anybody who has/is conducted research on the
mines surrounding Merthyr Tydfil that were operated by the Cyfarthfa Iron
Works from the mid 18th century and thoughout the 19th and early 20th
centuries. The specific area of interest are the patch works and scouring
oprations on Mynydd Aberdare, to the west of Merthyr. A recent application
for open cast mining has been turned down by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough
Council. I am currently preparing evidence on the historic landscape to
support the Council's decision, which is subject to an appeal. It would be
useful to demonstrate the academic and education value of these remains and
I would welcome advice from anyone who has had an interest or close
association with these historic mines.
It would probably be easier to communicate off line and I can be contacted
