Cobalt was mined at Clive and Pimhill mines in north Shropshire certainly in
the 19th century at the former and probably also at the latter and trials
for it were carried out in the early 20th c. The mineral was absolite,
specimens of which weighing several tons were recoded at Clive. Reference is
made in the BGS Special Report vol. 30 1925, 'Copper ores of the Midlands'
etc p 18-9, Rutley's Mineralogy, H H Read p 499 (this is quoted by N
Southwick in the Shropshire Mines Trust Newsletter No. 21 Dec 2001) and Hunt
'British Mining' 1884 p259.
