Regarding Barry's mention of the the annual boiler inspection, with associated hydraulic and pressure testing as an insurance requirement, can any list member throw any light on when such insurance requirements were introduced.
I have a mining electrical background and when I started work in 1949 all electric motors carried an identification number that was still called the 'insurance number' by the older hands. At that time there was no insurance involvement and I was led to believe that this had ceased with nationalisation.
