Laundry blue to whiten clothes was produced from clay minerals near
Backbarrow in south Cumbria until the 1970s, the "Dolly Blue Works". I
don't have a reference but I'm sure there must be one, Albyn. Also try the
various Memoirs of the Geological Survey and search the UK mineral
statistics that Roger and co at Exeter have so carefully collated, and I
think is on a related site to this one.
