I am really envious when I see the breadth of opportunities for continuing
education available for midwives in the UK. It takes some time to arrange
cover and then travel half way across the globe to atend a conference or set
of seminars, which many of us would be willing to do. We could even
contribute to your seminar/conference! But............... could we be given
more notice, like at least 6 months notice of such events.

The Medical Statistics Unit at the R&D Directorate, in collaboration with
the Department of Statistical Science, UCL and the MRC Clinical Trials Unit
is offering this intensive introductory course. It is aimed at those
actively involved in medical research, who wish to understand the principles
of medical statistics to help them interpret their study results and gain
experience of applying appropriate methods of analysis.
Course topics include study design, types of data, and methods of analysis;
the methods range from simple statistical tests to more complex regression
analyses including logistic and survival regression models. The course also
provides an overview of meta-analyses and analysis of clustered data (e.g.
repeated measurements data).
The course is structured into 4 teaching sessions per day, each consisting
of a lecture followed by a practical. Each participant has access to a
computer for practical work. A textbook, full set of lecture notes and
solutions to practicals are supplied. Numbers are strictly limited on a
first-come first-served basis.
