Dear Jane and all,
I have seen this initiative and think it is a good start.
Although I am a PhD student myself, I was just asthonished about the
criteria.
I am doing cross cultural research in Europe right now, and have seen how
logical some things are to people in certain countries.
I just wondered about the thing which is called " Equal Access" from all
experts from all countries with these criteria.
I have done research for ages now, before I got the possibility, which is
just by chance, to do this PhD and I am living ( and have lived) in areas
where "peer reviewing" is slowly coming up or still behind the moon.
I just think, this list might become very "English"- dominated. ( I am
really sorry to say this), and maybe we'll miss out some very good experts,
who might already be 75...
With the kindest regards from behind this moon,
Ans Luyben

Subject: Re: British midwives PhD - ICM network of research expertise
Dear listmembers,
It seems timely to let you those of you who are not already members, know
that the ICM Research Standing Committee has a database and closed jisclist
of active researchers around the world who are in the area of maternity
care. The list has 100 members worldwide and is multidisciplinary.
Increasingly, the ICM needs to be able to consult people with expertise at
short notice, and also needs a group of people who are willing to peer
review research stream abstracts for the Brisbane Conference. As you can see
we have asked people to send in their CV and acceptance criteria are as
follows.
· MPhil/PhD
· Peer reviewed publications
· Track record of research, R & D in reproduction/maternity care
Contact details and research interests and expertise will be loaded onto the
ICM Research Committee web site following consent members in the new year.
Marianne, you may wish to send your email to this list too.
We are still looking for members and I will copy the original information
below....
A NEW ICM NETWORK
OF RESEARCH ADVISORS/PEER REVIEWERS
The International Confederation of Midwives' Research Standing Committee is
looking to develop an expert network of research advisors/peer reviewers to
provide advice and support to the ICM and the Research Standing Committee on
research issues.
This network will serve a dual function of facilitating research
collaboration among members as well as providing a resource to the ICM. The
overall aim of the ICM Research Standing Committee is to strengthen the
development of midwifery research internationally. Currently the Committee
consists of regional representatives whose aim is to facilitate the
dissemination of information and develop the research workshops and themes
at the Triennial Congress; we are now looking to develop a network of active
researchers.
We are looking for people who:
· Recognise the importance of research to midwifery and reproductive health
generally
· Are professionally active in the area of midwifery and reproductive
research
We aim to publish a contact database of members' research expertise on the
new ICM website to facilitate networking among members. We would be pleased
to hear from any person who believes she or he can contribute to the process
of providing expert advice and reviewing research. In accordance with other
networks of this type, applicants will be asked to send in a CV before
acceptance.
Please email an expression of interest with your CV to the ICM office
[log in to unmask] and we will contact you in due course. If you
have any queries, please contact me directly at the address below.
Best wishes
Dr Jane Sandall

See respond to Linda Kvist.
Clearly this might be a useful database to keep for contacts.
