I've been following this thread with interest.
Xebit Ltd (http://www.xebit.net) are hoping to solve some of the problems
outlined in this thread.
We're hoping the systems we've developed for cataloguing and exhibiting
(online and intranet) collections using existing Internet technologies
will be of interest when we bring them to market early next year.
One of the plans we hope to implement is to offer a consortium package
that would allow a group of museums to take advantage of the benefits at a
lower individual cost. Xebit would supply all technical expertise,
ongoing hosting and project management, including digitisation and
editorial content where required.
Museum staff would commit time only to identifying and cataloguing
collections.
I'm hoping this won't be taken as spamming the list, as we are keen to
help smaller museums that may have tight budgets and lack IT expertise.
I won't post on this topic again but if anyone is interested I'd be happy
to discuss further off list.
Thanks for your indulgence.
Kind regards
Tony
Development Director
