I think you will find that CILIP appointments does not have the monopoly on
seniorish jobs ie£25k+(I know by most sectors not that senior) and
especially for what one would regard as non-traditional library posts, but
require information skills
The Guardian, www.jobs.ac.uk, , The THES, and other trade press will all
advertise these type of jobs either in addition to CILIP or sometimes
instead of. If you are investing that amount of money in a post you will
want to ensure that you are advertising to as many potential quality
canidates as possible and hence would not want to restrict yourself to the
apointments newsletter/website of CILIP. If a salary/advert bar were
introduced say from £18k (not unreasonable figure) the number of adverts
(and income) would be of course reduced......

Since CILIP is no longer devoted to just the library community, I'd like to
point out that I have never in my professional career ever found a
'CILIPian' job from LA Appointments. The best publication source for
information science jobs was the New Scientist, backed up by specialist
agencies like Aslib and more recently Sue Hill Appointments. There is no
reason at all why any library, particularly one which employs people
handling technical or scientific information, needs to
