I've done my last update of the BL page about Medline
(http://www.bl.uk/services/information/blmedline.html) at high speed
(apologies for some gaps in formatting!). 3 things:
1. Reminder re PubCrawler- great free automatic search service (rather
buried on my page) at http://www.pubcrawler.ie/
2. I've added a link with a saved search of PubMed *about* Medline, and also
how to do that ie save a search as a url (but dont put in date limits or
search nos).
3. I've added some more Medline training resources mentioned on the list
earlier (thanks again!), which raises a couple of general issues:
i) how up- to-date they are with software changes
PubMed software is tweaked to some degree every few months, sometimes in
important ways. So anyone's online guides to it can date quickly,
particularly when basic features have changed (eg recent one recently on how
to add things to clipboard). The only resource that is reliably up-to-date
are the ones on PubMed itself, such as 'Help'.
The NLM training manuals are usually OK but can sometimes be slightly
behind, tho I'm pleased to say a new version is up this month. They provide
a good introduction for a training course that can take a couple of hours -
our trainer uses them, plus some extras. The shorter guides by libraries,
some excellent otherwise, depend on someone updating them regularly which
may or may not happen.
ii) differing software
The other issue is that I don't have access to Ovid, so have no way of
assessing the guides I have put up re Ovid (but put them up as there's a
good chance they are OK as list members suggested them!)
