Subject: Charging for printing
Hi folks - I put an email out about a month ago asking people about
charging for printing. I have looked at the responses and am emailing the
summary of responses below.
1. Charges 8p a copy. Uses CESL and has the same cards for the photcopier
and printers.
2. Uses EMOS and charges 5-7p a page. They have one printer between 6 PCs
on the network. The same cards are used for photocopiers and the printer.
Additional comments - it has cut the amount of wasted paper and clear
instructions to users overcame the initial problem of users getting others
printouts on their cards.
3. Canon photocopiers allow network printing.
4. Charges 5p a page for printing personal documents like CVs.
5. 1 library doesn't charge for printing but uses scrap paper in the
printers and charges for clean sheets.
6. Charges 5p for black and white and 10p for colour printing.
7. Charges 5p a page, uses EMOS and has the same card for both photocopier
and printer.
8. 1 library uses a system called TDSi and this works with passwords.
9. The British Library charge 22p per page and use EMOS.
10. Charges 6p a sheet for non-work printing and 8p a sheet for A3. Uses
EMOS and watermarked cards - although made the comment that EMOS have
discontinued sales of watermarked card readers. So have to rely on coin
boxes.
11. Students can have 200 pages a year free then they are charged. PCounter
software by Aetman Associates. Print off user reports and charge users once
a month.
12. 3 libraries responded that users have to collect their printouts and
pay cash. 2 charge 5p and one charges 2p per sheet. Users did not always
have to pay for printouts from databases like Medline.
I hope this is useful. Thanks again to all those who responded. Sharon
Springham.
