Dear All
In the first year of the contract we did not choose ASSIA as it was not
considered a core database. We did make a decision to get all the A&I
databases through one supplier so users did not have to re-learn each
interface. Users do not have to learn the Proquest interface (if they don't
want to) as the full text is linked from Dialog.
Considering the whole process is subject to European procurement rules, and
how long that process takes it is unlikley we would go through that process
again just so we can buy ASSIA from the CSA! If the CSA were to make ASSIA
available to Dialog Datastar (like they had in the past) we would not have
have procurement problems. I have spoken to CSA and they seem to be
unlikley to change their stance - I know there are a number of alternatives
available offering a similar range of journals - perhaps we should consider
one of those?
The National Core Content group meets in Novemeber to discuss the
procurement for next year (April 2004 onwards). If you have suggestions for
additions to the collection please send them to your local NHS Workforce
Development Confederation librarian.
