"Evidence has carried out the first full address mapping of research in the
UK health sector. We have developed a database of UK hospitals and research
units that can be aggregated by health trust, Health Authority and NHS
region. This has been reconciled to the research outputs database of the
'Science Citation Index'.
"Our development work allows us to look at the volume and impact of research
publications in the health sector by discipline and broad field, through the
identification of high impact papers, or via an analysis of current 'hot'
topics.
"The data can be analysed at greater levels of detail within the system to
allow comparisons between individual hospitals or aggregated to look at the
performance of a region. This can be related to key management tasks, such
as social and health priorities.
"Evidence can benchmark hospital and trust performance by comparisons with
other specified units across time, or against a peer group. We can also work
with Trusts to analyse research performance in terms of efficiency and
effectiveness."

"Evidence has more experience of mapping and benchmarking research activity
in Universities and Colleges than any other UK company.
"We have carried out major consultancies for the UK Higher Education Funding
Council (HEFCE), analysing distribution of research performance in the UK
compared with other G7 countries. We have used this to analyse the effects
of funding selectivity, research concentration and critical mass, and the
distribution of centres of excellence.

Subject: Where do univerities get research funding query
Hi
I have had an enquiry from one of our users about where university
departments get funding for specific research projects (mainly in the
medical/pharmaceutical/scientific field).
He also wishes to know if there is any rating system available for the
research centres.
I have tried the usual searches and come up with loads on departmental
ratings but nothing specifically regarding the research departments - does
such a thing exist? Or would one assume that if the department has a good
rating, that the research done within this is also of a high standard?
Is there likely to be an easy way of ascertaining who is funding what
projects? (Is there a list that exists or would it be a matter of looking at
each individual project?) Specifically he wants to know if COMPANIES have
sponsored or funded the research.
Many thanks in anticipation of your help
Sarah
