The two modules in Allegro Training's courses for library assistants
will be offered in Birmingham in October.
What do they cover?
The Supply Chain
This module looks at the supply of requested items, including
books,
serials and non-book media. You will learn about the three main
supply lines: buying, borrowing, electronic sources
Understanding and verifying the request
Options for satisfying the request
Electronic sources
Appropriate monitoring systems
Information Management
In this module we examine how users and staff find material in the
library. You will learn the basic principles of cataloguing and
classification and how these can be made to serve the user
Understanding catalogue records
AACR, MARC and classification systems
Creating records for basic material
Evaluating the end product
Who should attend?
The courses are for people working in any kind of library. They
provide practical, task-based learning opportunities which will help
participants be more efficient, effective and enthusiastic at work.
They will broaden and enhance library assistants’ skills. The course
materials provided will allow review and reassessment of the
learning
over time in the workplace.
