With apologies for cross-posting
A new facility is now available to support users of BL MARC records in
managing the migration of their catalogues to MARC 21.
A listing of over 1300 of the most frequent name headings occurring in the
British National Bibliography (BNB) is now present on the BL web site, at
http://www.bl.uk/services/bibliographic/bnb1000.html
The list matches BL NAL (British Library Name Authority List) headings with
those established under the Name Authorities Co-operative (NACO) component
of the Program for Co-operative Cataloguing (PCC) as used in MARC 21
cataloguing. The list comprises four parts, namely
An introduction, To the user, describing the selection method and
presentation of headings
An Alphabetical sequence of the 1,300 most used BNB and equivalent NACO
headings showing if they are the same or different or if a NACO heading is
not available.
A Frequency listing in which headings are ranked according to how often they
occur in the BNB.
A Statistical analysis of matching of BNB and NACO headings
I would also like to remind you of the survey of users of BL MARC records.
We would be most grateful if you could spare a few minutes of your time to
complete the questionnaire if you have not already done so. It also on the
BL web site, at
http://www.bl.uk/services/bibliographic/marc/marcsurvey.html
If you have any enquiries about either the BNB Headings List or the BL MARC
records user survey, please contact
