Here at Univ.of Glos we are also fairly satisfied with Hays, although we
have a new courier now, so all that may change. Our original guy was a gem,
but like all good things...
We also give our BL books a 5-week loan period to allow for transport
delays [& it must be admitted, user reluctance to return anything on time!]

Our experience of Hays DX is very good. Because we have a box for return to
BL each day they call each day to collect. The particular van driver we
have had for the last year is very reliable, and when on a couple of
occasions our box was not ready for collection he called back later.
What we do not know is how long the box takes to reach BL and we will be
monitoring the number of unwanted automatic renewals which occur.
Incidently, to reduce the number of automatic renewals we reduced our loan
period from 6 to 5 weeks to encourage readers to return books before they
are due and allow time for return.

Subject: Hayes DX
We are supposed to have regular collections by Hayes DX , but in practice
the collections are not made regularly, and even if a phone request is made
for a collection, it can take several phone calls before the collection is
made. Now that the British Library are automatically renewing books which
are not returned, this has financial implications. Are other Libraries
experiencing the same lack of service? Sally Giffen Sally Giffen University
